Hello, welcome to the Year 8 Spanish page.
This page will give you some information about things that you will study during your first year in St Paul’s. Whether or not you have studied this subject at primary school, we’re sure you will find the information below helpful.
Spanish is taught through the four skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Using the most innovative and exciting technologies and resources Year 8 Spanish students are immersed in language learning activities. In Year 8, we put a lot of emphasis on building up student confidence to speak Spanish. Through the use of music, games, songs and group work, students learn in a fun way, which is both supportive and motivational.
Our Spanish language assistant, Jacqueline Connolly, visits each Year 8 class at least once per fortnight. During these sessions students have an opportunity to learn about interesting aspects of Spanish culture as well as developing their oral ability in the language. We encourage our Year 8 classes to become involved in Spanish quizzes, cultural events and to participate in our online class/activities which are designed to enhance all learning which takes place in school. Supportive learning resources for each of the topics that are covered are available for students online. They can be accessed at any time by students who are all given unique log-in details.
Our Year 8 students will be introduced to the life experiences and culture of an eleven year old Spanish student and his/her family. Through the establishment of a video link with a class of Spanish students of the same age, our students directly communicate with their Spanish friends and learn about our different lifestyles and culture.
