Hello from Mrs Rafferty, Director of Pupil Safeguarding

mrs-raffertyHello students

My name is Catherine Rafferty. I am responsible for Pupil Health and Well-being at St Paul’s.

If you are feeling unwell or have something you would like to talk about you can come to the medical room to see me. You must inform your teacher and he or she will put a note in your student planner giving you permission to attend the medical room.

If you have a medical condition, I would like your parent/guardian to contact me and we can arrange to meet to discuss this and ensure you get the treatment or help you require while in school.

It is our policy at St Paul’s to administer emergency pain relief to students if required. If your parent/guardian does not wish you to receive pain relief due to allergy or adverse reaction they will be asked to confirm this in writing. Pain relief can only be given to a pupil who has written parental/guardian consent. I have a consent form that I will ask your parent/guardian to sign.

Your parent/guardian will need to ensure all telephone numbers they provide are current. This is very important as I may need to contact them if you are unwell. Should you become unwell or have an accident in school I will contact your parent/guardian as soon as possible to inform them to arrange for you to go home or be taken for medical attention.

During Year 8 we will require your parent/guardian’s signature on a Health Appraisal Form. This is required by the School Health Team. Routine immunisation injections are offered to pupils in Years 9 and 11. I would ask you to ensure that any medical forms given to you are returned to me as so as possible.

I hope you enjoy your St Paul’s experience.

Additional information for parents

Students who require regular medication during school hours can do so in the privacy of the medical room. The facility is available to allow me to retain medication in school for individual needs. A specific care plan will be put in place for each student to ensure all their needs are met in accordance with NMC regulations and parental/guardian requests.

If your child becomes unwell or has an accident in school, I will endeavour to inform you as quickly as possible and will administer basic first aid. However, in the event of a serious incident/accident requiring urgent medical treatment we will make arrangements to take your child directly to Daisy Hill Hospital via car or ambulance and you will be asked to meet us there.

If there is something you would like to discuss please feel free to contact me by phone or email and I will endeavour to facilitate your requirements.

My email address is crafferty368@stpauls.bessbrook.ni.sch.uk

Kind regards

Mrs Catherine Rafferty
